L'An 01 is a French movie based on the homonymous comic strip by Gébé and the contributions from its readers. Script and realization are the result of international collaborations. The film was first released on the 22 of February 1973. It seems a series of riots all over France exploded in the weeks following the film release.

L’An 01 (the year 01) is an experimental comic and movie, as well as a collective thought experiment impatient to be put in practice: neither forwards, nor backwards, L'An 01 begins by making a step to the side. First of all: On arrête tout! (we stop everything). Stop with work, with buying crap, with money, with property, with all that we do that sustains the world that oppresses us all. Some time after this radical quitting, people decide together how to start things anew and differently.

The year 01 doesn’t wait for ‘the revolution’ to come or the next wave of rebellions to resonate strong enough, nor does it tacitly await for the next catastrophe or for the apocalypse at last. The year 01 could start at any moment.

Tired of preliminary exercises, of too much foreplay, of too many disillusions, and too impatient for freedom, people decide to simply agree on a date. "What about Tuesday?"

The proposal spreads in the streets, everyone agrees. And so France comes to a halt, while news of the experiment's success spread around the world.

Coming Tuesday it will be the 22-02-2022. This special palindrome day - reads the same forwards and backwards, and even upside-down - is charged with urgency and synchronicity. The numbers are right, the stars aligned, generalized exhaustion has become pandemic, conspiratorial thinking is high, the future is tinted with doom. With a few days until the anniversary of this movie's release: which way are we going to go? Forwards, backwards, or to the side?

After the film we will discuss together ideas of immanent revolution and millenarianism, in political movements, philosophy and magic, as well as in relation to contemporary phenomena such as growing conspiracies of the Great Reset, widespread work resignation (the so called Big Quit) and the threat or promise of the (post)pandemic “return to normality”.
